Former Willem II player Bud Brocken died on Saturday at the age of 67. Willem II reports this on the website of the football club. The Tilburger was the public favorite in the 1980s and was known for its trademark, ‘the banana strap’. He closed his career at BVV Den Bosch, the precursor of FC Den Bosch.
Thanks to his special kick technique, he was able to curl the ball around the opponent and put him with extraordinary precision in the enemy goal area. Pits only had to bump into it.
Dutch team
Brocken made his professional debut at Willem II at the age of 17. He then played for Birmingham City and then returned to the Netherlands at FC Groningen. In his time at Groningen he played five times for the Dutch national team.
Before Brocken closed his football career at BVV Den Bosch, he played for Willem II for five more years. Brocken played for eleven seasons, spread over two periods for Tilburg. In total he came to 388 games for the Tricolores.
After a football career of seventeen years old, Brocken opted for a social career. He went to follow a course to become a broker and went to work in that business. The Tilburger still regularly visited matches of the Tricolores.
