House on a wish list

It is the kind of house that the candidates of Buy without watching Always have high on their wish list. 1930s of course, authentic details, characteristic and a deep garden. Eric and Monique van Berckel viewed more than a hundred houses before they dropped their eye in 2006 on the villa that met their wishes on all points.

“We had bizarre demands,” smiles Eric van Berckel. “What made it extra complicated was that Monique wanted to live in a lively city while I opted for the outdoors. This house has both a miraculous way. On the edge of Mediastad Hilversum, but adjacent to the Laapersheide nature reserve.”

Family came in a spread bed

Another windfall: the house was completely stripped and renovated a few years before. The Van Berckel family actually ended up in a completely new house, a spread bed. “We had to do nothing at all, apart from some painting.”

The family was also very happy with the no less than seventy meters deep back garden in which the then young children could play nicely without supervision. “Through the fence in the back garden you stand in the middle of the heath. The children’s life with friends all took place behind the house.”

The house built under architecture in 1930 can easily be called ample. A garage, a shed and a veranda: it’s all there. The living room and suite consists of three parts: at the front the living room with wood -fired fireplace, a high ceiling and parquet. On the other side of the and suite doors a spacious dining room and a light conservatory with access to the back garden.

In the basement Lavastene-Wijnrek systems

On the ground floor also a play/office and of course a kitchen, equipped with, among other things, a Quooker and a Lacanche-Corner with a double oven. In the basement, among other things, lavastene-wine rack systems and a water softener. In addition to HR ++ glass, there are 22 solar panels, the house has energy label B.

Four bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. “When the children were small, it was nice that they could all sleep on the same floor,” says Eric van Berckel. “Of course they moved upstairs, there are two more bedrooms with a second bathroom. You can even make a seventh bedroom there.”

The whole family loves the large garden, a green oasis with a computer -controlled irrigation system; The grass is kept by a robotic lawnmower. LED land spots ensure that you can also sit outside in the evening. Van Berckel: “There is a wide variety of birds: blackbirds, robins, but also buzzards and in the evening.”

‘We never actually come in the attic’

“A wonderfully spacious family home, but that is also the reason we are leaving. The children are now out of the house and for the two of us it is very big. We almost never come in the attic floor. It does not feel good to keep such a huge house for two people and we are going to live smaller. We also arrived in another, calmer phase of our lives. Like a friend said: 60 Welcome to Q4! “

Next to the house is a stone garage with electric roller door; There is also a carport and a large shed for the bikes. For the equipment there is a small house in the back of the garden. Eric: “We will mainly miss the veranda, a very nice place to sit comfortably and enjoy the greenery.”

The three children had to get used to the message that the property would be sold. “It is of course their parental home in which they grew up, there are many memories. Their 21-year-old-dinners, our wedding anniversaries in the garden.”

Everything close, from schools to roads

“It is also such a nice house with children, everything is close by: from schools to roads and two stations. Moreover, close to Loosdrecht where we had a sloop. The house is of course very centrally located, in two hours you reach both Groningen and Maastricht.”

Also nearby: an international school. “We owe that to Nike’s headquarters that is located here. There are many expats in this neighborhood. That brings a very own international dynamic with it. We have only enjoyed it for twenty years.”
