The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven achieved a prestige success at the start of the Champions Hockey League (CHL).
At defending champion ZSC Lions Zurich, the main round of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) won a 3-2 in overtime in the first competitive game of the new season.
Bennet Roßmy (20th) put the guests in the lead in the first third, after the deficit Miha Verlic (53.) ensured the extension in the final section, in which Jan Urbas scored the winning goal after only 63 seconds. Already on Sunday (5:15 p.m./Magentasport) the penguins are guests at Austria’s serial champion Red Bull Salzburg on the 2nd matchday.
A total of 24 teams take part in the CHL. In the leagueapse, there are six different opponents. All teams are listed in an overall table, 16 make it into the ko round. The German champion Eisbären Berlin started on Thursday with a 3-0 win at the Norwegian champion Storhamar Hockey, while ERC Ingolstadt lost 1: 3 against the Ilves Tampere Finnish Club. The DEL only starts the new season on September 19.
