A training trip was doomed Chris Froome. The bike star fell and injured himself.

Care for Chris Froome: The four -time winner of the Tour de France and Olympic champion in time trials (2012 and 2016) came down on a training trip on the Côte d’Azur without any exhaustion by another cyclist or another vehicle. The 40-year-old injured himself so badly that he had to be taken to a hospital to Toulon French by helicopter. This was announced by his team about his X and Instagram channel.

“Fortunately, Chris is stable and did not suffer any head injuries,” it also said in the statement. Nevertheless, the British born in Kenya apparently caught it bad. His team announced that he is said to have suffered a lung collapse, five broken ribs and a break on a lumbar vertebrae. Froome is operated on in the afternoon.

Froome won the Tour de France in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. He also celebrated the overall victory at the Giro d’Italia 2018 and Vuelta a España 2011 and 2017. At the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, he won the bronze medal in individual time trials.

For “Froomey” the fall on the Côte d’Azur was not the first of his career. When preparing for the Tour de France 2019, he fell in the 4th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. The result: he broke his thigh, the pelvis, the elbows and several ribs. Even then he had been removed with a helicopter and remained in the intensive care unit for days. Afterwards, Froome, who is currently under contract with the “Israel Prime Minister Tech” team, missed all remaining races of the 2019 season. He was never able to build on the success of previous days.
