The Netherlands and Germany have one today bilateral treaty signed About the joint and responsible exploitation of border-transcending hydrocarbons fields in (part of) the territorial sea north of the Eems-Dollard area
Both countries make agreements with the Convention on the division of the expected quantities of gas into German-Dutch gas fields, the distribution of the costs and revenues of the extraction between the permit holders and the gas benefits for both the Netherlands and Germany.
The signature marks the government’s objective to guarantee gas supplement security for residents and businesses of our country. Gas extraction in this area not only reinforces the security of supply of the Netherlands and our neighboring countries, but also contributes to a stronger European gas market.
Surcharge and affordable, clean energy are crucial for the Netherlands, Germany and Europe for the preservation of our prosperity, industry, future earning capacity and competitive position. Our countries are closely intertwined with the energy area and share shared energy and climate goals. For example, we not only have an integrated energy infrastructure, but we work together in the case of supply of supply and share joint ambitions in the development of, among other things, wind energy at sea and hydrogen.

Gas extraction from the cross-border N05-A field
The One-Dyas company will win gas from the N05-A platform (see photo) from the border-transcending field N05-A and any other gas fields to be connected in the wider gateway to the ems (gems) region. The estimate is that the N05-A-Veld, together with surrounding Gems-Velden, can yield around 50 billion m3 of natural gas over the next 20 years.
For this, the company will use green electricity from the nearby German wind farm Riffgat and the platform is lowered to be less visible from the coast. This allows gas to be won in a relatively clean way and with an eye for the environment.
For example, this project can immediately give concrete substance to the recently concluded sector agreement to responsibly win the remaining natural gas in the North Sea.
In addition, it is the intention of One-Dyas to explore the possibility at a later stage for a pilot for offshore hydrogen production on the N05-A platform. You can also see the future potential in this area for CO2 storage. With this, the further development of the Gems area can also be symbolized for the future of our offshore energy system and the system integration at sea.
