The cup evening had it for Bayern. Afterwards we went back to Munich, but in an unusual way.
For the players of FC Bayern, we went back to Munich’s homeland immediately after moving into the second round of the DFB Cup. But instead of a charter flight, it became a ride on the team bus for the team, which narrowly prevailed at Wehen Wiesbaden on Wednesday evening.
At Munich Airport there is a ban on night land from 0 a.m. to 5 a.m. Landungen are only allowed in exceptional cases with previous approval. Joshua Kimmich would like a softening of this rule: “We have to pick up the night landing ban in Munich, that would not be bad,” said the 30-year-old, who represented the red-locked Manuel Neuer as captain, after the final whistle in the Brita-Arena at the Sky microphone.
As the “Bild” newspaper reports, Bayern only traveled to Wiesbaden on the match day, used two private jets from the Oberpfaffenhofen special airfield to Frankfurt. From there it initially went to the team hotel. After the game, the team of coach Vincent Kompany went home. It is around 428 kilometers from the Brita-Arena in Wiesbaden to Säbener Straße.
When asked how Kimmich’s teammates pass the time on the long journey, he replied: “It is best to sleep.” Striker Harry Kane and defender Josip Stanišić, on the other hand, are among the faction that Mario Kart play. Read more about this here.
By the way: Bayern have been traveling to play in airplanes since Corona pandemic. The bus is only used for shorter away games, for example in Augsburg or Stuttgart.
