In six residential care centers around Antwerp, in the Leuven region and in Aalst, at least 21 residents were hit by a STEC infection, a variant of E. coli. Four patients already died of infection. The Department of Care and the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV) are looking for the source of the contamination: something that all affected residents have eaten. How difficult is that treasure hunt and what measures are taken to protect fellow residents?
