Excitement in the DFB Cup
“Wild”: FC Bayern is denied penalty
27.08.2025 – 10:09 p.m.Reading time: 2 min.
The game only lasted a few minutes, the Bayern players were angry. It became chaotic in the Wiesbaden penalty area.
At halftime, FC Bayern led 1-0 in the first round of the DFB Cup against Wehen Wiesbaden. Goal scorer Harry Kane brought the German record champion in the lead after only 16 minutes. A foul was preceded by Sacha Boey. Only shortly before that, there could have been a penalty – or even have to.
What happened? Boey prevailed on the right in the ninth minute, put it through on the goal area on Kane by flat pass. However, the English end of the English got stuck on the roar of Wiesbaden Jordy Gillenkens. The Belgian was then on the ground, turned with an outstretched arm and clearly touched the ball several times.
Referee Daniel Siebert decided on Harry Kane handball and thus free kick against FC Bayern. The Munich team could not understand the decision and discussed with the impartial – albeit in vain.
Alf Mintzel, Director of Marketing and Sales in Wiesbaden, said the scene at half -time: “Wild.” Sky moderator Sebastian Hellmann demanded an explanation: “Which I don’t have. I think it is a handball, you can see very clearly. We had huge happiness.” When Siebert is said to have seen a handball at Kane, he cannot explain.
ZDF expert Christoph Kramer also has a clear opinion: “It is hand. If the player of contractions makes a little more out of it, the red is suspicious,” said the 2014 world champion. In his opinion, other users joined the platform X. One user commented: “The clearest penalty I think I have seen in the past few months. This referee quality is now ridiculous.” Another wrote: “This is not only penalty, but also red.”
FC Bayern will be able to get the wrong decision. However, one question arises: does the video evidence also need in the first round of the DFB Cup? The VAR is only used from the round of 16.
