Mick Schumacher had intensive discussions with the new Formula 1 racing team Cadillac, but the Americans decided differently. The two cockpits receive two veterans, as the team officially announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez form the first driver pairing of the history of the Cadillac racing team in Formula 1. The duo was confirmed on Tuesday. This also makes sense: Mick Schumacher must continue to wait for his long -awaited comeback in the premier class.
The 26-year-old had had concrete conversations with Cadillac team manager Graeme Lowdon in the past few months. Finally, however, the pendulum excluded clearly towards the old master Bottas and Perez.
“The commitment of two very experienced racing drivers such as Bottas and Checo is a clear sign of our intentions,” said Lowdon now: “You have already seen everything you need to be successful in Formula 1. But you can understand what it means to help build a team.”
Cadillac team manager thanks Mercedes
The American emphasized the “leadership skills, their feedback, their instinct in racing and of course their speed”. These properties will be “invaluable for the Formula 1 newcomer if we bring this team to life”.
Lowdon added: “A big thank you to the Mercedes team for his cooperation and his understanding.”
Valtteri Bottas had moved back to the silver arrows after his end at the team at the beginning of the year, where he took on the role of the reserve pilot behind George Russell and Kimi Antonelli – a position that was previously held by Mick Schumacher. Sergio Perez was, however, after his end with Red Bull without an employer.
For the Mexican, it is “an honor” to be part of the new team and to do development work: “Cadillac is a legendary name in American motorsport.”
Bottas emphasized that he has felt great anticipation since the first conversation with his new employer. “This is not just a motorsport project, it has a big vision.”
