Is your child a real OosterheeMder? On the occasion of Heemdag on Saturday, September 6, the municipality of Zoetermeer will hand out free birth locks. They can hang parents on the artwork Birthmark In Oosterheem.

The 11 meter high tower of artist Hans van Houwelingen has been on an island in the Heemkanaal since 2013 and has since become a well -known landmark. On the stairs around the artwork there are dozens of locks with names and birth dates of children from the neighborhood. New there will be added soon.

For all children

Parents of children born in Oosterheem, or whose parents lived there at birth, can have a lock engraved with the first and date of birth of their child. There is also room for stillborn children or children who died later. So Birthmark Not only a monument for new lives, but also a tangible memory of children who are missed.

Request a lock

You can request a birth lock until Wednesday 1 October via the Zoetermeer engraving service. You can request a maximum of five. After registration you will receive a confirmation with which you can pick up the lock at Velddreef 171 in Zoetermeer. During Heemdag you can hang it immediately, but that is also allowed later.
