After last season, Sergio Pérez had to go to Red Bull. The Mexican is already facing Formula 1 before returning.
Sergio Pérez is apparently facing a comeback in Formula 1. The 35-year-old is to be presented as the first regular driver of the new team Cadillac in the coming days. This is reported by “autosport.com” shortly before the Grand Prize of the Netherlands in Zandvoort (Sunday, 3 p.m./Sky).
Accordingly, the former Red Bull Pilot receives a contract for two years-with an option for a third season. After his break, Pérez would return to the premier class of motorsport this year.
In addition to his experience from 281 Grands Prix, the Mexican also brings financial support from private sponsors. Most recently, Pérez Red Bull had to leave after a sporty disappointing season, although his contract originally ran until the end of 2026. The Vice World Champion of 2023 could not meet the high expectations and thus lost his place in the team.
Cadillac wants to get into Formula 1 as an eleventh racing team in 2026, but is the big outsider. After a long struggle with the other teams and those responsible for the racing series, the US car maker had also received permission to participate in the premier class of motorsport at pressure from the World Association FIA.
Valtteri Bottas is traded as the second driver in the team. The Finn last drove for clean and was previously active at Mercedes. Mick Schumacher was also considered a candidate for a Cadillac cockpit. However, his return to the Formula 1 starter field does not seem to realize again.
