Former swimmer Jani Sievinen and Maria Nyqvist submitted a divorce application to the Helsinki District Court.
The Helsinki District Court tells Iltalehti that the application was submitted on Friday 22 August. The couple submitted the application together.
The couple announced their resignation on Facebook and Instagram on August 18.

Sievinen said in a Facebook publication on the resignation that the decision to resign from Nyqvist. He would have wanted to continue the duo’s union.
– Mary and my union ends. Personally, I would have liked to continue my journey. I understand the basics, and when the basics understand, it also accepts the facts, the multiple world and European champion Sievinen wrote at the time.

Iltalehti reached Maria Nyqvist on the same day. He confirmed that Sievinen’s publication was informed that the decision was his.
– I confirm, he said.
Although the resignation was surprising, the decision was not.
“It’s not a surprising situation,” Nyqvist comments.
He admitted that he was in a very shaky mood and was not very keen to open up the situation any more.
– This is such a fresh thing now that it’s pretty sensitive right now. No more about this now, he said.
