Deutsche fetches four times World Cup gold in singles

Darja Varfolomeev had already won the gold medal in the all -around on Friday. On Sunday, she followed three times – and also triumphed in the team.
Darja Varfolomeev showed her class again at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. Two days after the all-round title, the 18-year-old also secured the gold medals with the ball, the legs and the band. Only in the tire final she remained without precious metal and finished fifth. With this she got four gold medals in singles
Her club colleague Anastasia Simakova also managed a surprise. The 20-year-old won bronze in the tire final at her World Cup debut and became sixth with the band. “I am satisfied and I am very happy,” said Simakova.
There was also reason to cheer in the team: together with the DTB group, Varfolomeev and Simakova won gold in the team all-around. “We are happy that we were able to call up our performance and the gold medal is of course the crowning glory for our season,” said group gymnast Melanie Dargel. In a total of five gold and a bronze medal for the German team were available- an exclamation mark with a view of the 2025 home World Cup in Frankfurt/Main.
Varfolomeev’s dream of renewed five-time triumph burst early. In the tire final, she lost the balance of a pirouette and had to support herself, making it lost important points. “It is now. You don’t have to think backwards, but to the front,” she said afterwards – and converted this impressively.
With 29,850 points in the ball final, she won her second title and spoke of a special moment: “Singing my anthem alone is very nice. It is definitely remembered.” Unlike the all -around battle, the right hymn was also played this time.
The highlight of the last day of the competition was her club exercise. She received 31,700 points for the performance – as the only gymnast of the title fights, she exceeded the mark of 31 points. With 30,250 points in the band final, Varfolomeev finally made her title hate trick perfect.
