Darja Varfolomeev missed the first chance of another title on Sunday at the World Cup in rhythmic sports gymnastics in Rio de Janeiro.
In the individual final with the tire, the 18-year-old took fifth place with 28.950 points, her club colleague from TSV Schmiden, Anastasia Simakova won bronze with 29.400 points. Sofia Raffaeli from Italy (30,650) before Stiliana Nikolowa from Bulgaria (29,950) became world champion.
Varfolomeev, Olympic champion of 2024, successfully defended her World Cup title in the all-around on Friday. “It went very well, there were four clean devices,” she said afterwards – with her joy in view of the upcoming individual decisions.
On Saturday, the student had won another gold medal in the team classification, which is composed of the all-round results in individual and in the group, together with the other athletes that start the German Turner Bund.
In the course of Sunday, “Dasha” has the chance to win three more World Cup titles – in the individual decisions with the ball, with the legs and with the band. Varfolomeev had traveled to Brazil as a defending champion on all hand devices as well as in all -around – at the 2023 World Cup in Valencia, she had won five out of five possible titles in the individual competitions.
