Via various Stegen you can reach the Hoofdstraat in Hoogeveen for pedestrians. Handy crawl-through-sneak-through routes, but these places are not very idyllic. Various Hoogeveense Stegen therefore have nicknames such as the “Pissteeg” or “Dealerssteeg” and the municipality wants to do something about it.
Hoogeveen wants to redecorate the alleys along the Hoofdstraat and investigates the best approach. In the meantime, it has already started improving the so -called Schepersgang, one of those alleys. Among other things, the pavement will be renewed there.
The refurbishment is part of the Development Vision for Stadscentrum, with which Hoogeveen wants to make the shopping and residential area more attractive.
The Hoofdstraat was created on the place where the first neighborhood once ran, the most important canal by Hoogeveen. A popular place on the water, where deep buildings were built along with relatively narrower facades. That means that many long alleys were created along those deep buildings. Just like the channel, nowadays a part of those alleys disappeared. Other Stegen are closed or private land. But there are still several alleys public for pedestrians.
When the approach to the alleys must be ready, according to a spokesperson for the municipality of Hoogeveen, it is not yet known.
