After the American First Lady Melania Trump recently expressed her concern about the children in the Ukraine -ruined Ukraine, she is also asked to support Palestinian children in Gaza. The question comes from Emine Erdogan, the wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. She has written a letter to Melania, report international press agencies on Saturday.
When US President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin last week in Alaska, Melania gave her husband a handwritten letter. In it she appealed to Putin to restore and protect the “magical smile” of children in Ukraine and Russia. The letter, which later leaked, received attention worldwide.
According to Emine Erdogan, that letter was “inspiring.” She writes that she hopes that Melania’s compassion for Ukrainian children will now also extend to the children in Gaza. Since the start of the Israeli war in Gaza, almost 19,000 children have been killed there, according to local authorities. According to Emine, a call from Melania to Netanyahu would fulfill “a historical responsibility towards the Palestinian people”.
Emine Erdogan has been speaking about social issues for some time. For example, she is at the head of the project “Where Did We Leave OFF”, that thousands of girls and women who have left their school early gives a second chance to get their diploma.
In addition, she launched the Zero Waste project in 2017, aimed at waste reduction, recycling and sustainable use of raw materials-now recognized and supported by the United Nations. She also spoke in the Vatican about global inequality and acted as an advocate for refugees.
The White House has not yet responded to Emine Erdogan’s request.
