Motocrosser Kay de Wolf is going to do everything in the last games of this season to prolong his world title in the MX2 class. At a championship, the 20-year-old driver from Eersel will be at the highest level next season: the MXGP. But even at a lower podium place there may be a chance of sporting promotion. “But if I still have to ride the world title at MX2 for another year, that is absolutely no punishment.”
The GP in Arnhem on 23 and 24 August is the only one in the Netherlands and so it feels like a home game for the wolf. Many fans hope for a victory from the man from Eersel. A victory that he can also use in the title fight with the German Simon Längenfelder, who is at the top of 40 points.
“That it is more difficult to prolong the title than to win it for the first time, not a word was lied to,” says De Wolf. “We have had some difficult competitions with injuries and therefore left a lot of points. It is part of it, it is as it is. I am still positive towards the rest of the season.”
After Arnhem, the last three games will wait in September in which the decision will fall. The GPs in Turkey, China and Australia provide many hours on the plane. “But you don’t have to think that I see many of those countries. In fact, we only see the cross jobs and our hotel, there is no time for tourist trips. Maybe when I stop crossing, I will travel around to go back to all places.”
“It was the dream as a child to be allowed to ride this song someday.”
Driving with number 1 on the suit does not give him extra pressure. “It was the dream as a child to be allowed to ride this song someday. When the chance was there, I used it with both hands. It gives a very special feeling. Too bad I have not been able to ride the red album as a leader for long, but we are going to do everything to get it back.”

With a new world title he has to go to the MXGP, the competition with the very best motocrossers in the world. “That would be something very positive. I like to drive 450cc, I look forward to it when it comes to happen. If I don’t take the title, I don’t know what my future looks like.”
After the season, De Wolf does not want to think about resting. “With a world title I have to test a lot for 450cc. But I have plans to go to America anyway to drive supercross. Just for fun, I like to sit on the motorbike. Then the holiday will come once.”
