After the recently confirmed transfers by Omari Hutchinson (21), James Mcatee (22) and Arnaud Kalimuendo (23) for around 99 million euros, Nottingham Forest is facing the next coup. According to the matching media reports, the Europa League participant has reached an agreement with Juventus about a change from Brazilian Douglas Luiz. The 27 -year -old midfielder will be expected for a medical check in England on Thursday.

According to “The Athletic”, the 18-fold national player is to be loaned for one year, after which there is an obligation to buy over 30 million euros, which is linked to certain factors such as missions. If Douglas Luiz does not complete a certain number of games, the clause turns into an option.
For Juventus, it is probably a reasonably acceptable solution to a major misunderstanding. Douglas Luiz was switched from Aston Villa to Turin in 2024 for 51.5 million euros and with a market value of EUR 70 million. Also due to injuries, however, he could not prevail sustainably and was only 877 minutes on the field in 27 games – without a goal participation. In Birmingham he had previously been one of the best midfielder of the Premier League. For one year at the Bianconeri, Douglas Luiz sank market value to 30 million euros, which is less than half of what he came to Italy. Since July 1, 2024, only Phil Foden (-50 million to EUR 100 million) has a larger market value minus.
Why the damage with Douglas Luiz for Juventus is limited
If he brought in 30 million euros in one year, the damage is at least limited, although in absolute numbers a minus of EUR 21.5 million. Running amounts are written off over the contract years, either in equal parts per season or in the successively smaller. In the former variant, in the case of Douglas Luiz, five years of the contract, 20.6 million euros would be deported after two years and the player would be led with a residual book value of EUR 30.9 million. The situation was similar this summer at the transfer of Bayern’s João Palhinha (30) with a loan with a purchase option to Tottenham. However, both must not be turned under the table that they had worked out the financial year with a transfer and salary in the time they were there and brought hardly any equivalent in terms of sport.
