Ex-DFB player Jérôme Boateng (36) and the Austrian Bundesliga club Lask go separate paths after one year. The contract, originally valid by 2026, was terminated by mutual agreement. The central defender came to Linz from Italy from Italy last summer, but was only 444 minutes on the pitch in 14 games due to injury.
“Throughout his time at LASK, Jerome has always behaved professionally and tried everything to help the team with his experience. He has played an important role in particular for our young players by supporting and pushed them. We would like to thank him for that. We wish Jerome all the best and good luck for his next steps,” said sports director Dino Buric.
Boateng added: “I thank the LASK for the trust and the time together here in Linz. It was an enriching experience to work again in a new environment. Now it has come for me the right time to open a new chapter. Which new challenges – sporty and personally – in the future – I will announced in the future. I wish the LASK all the best and good luck for the future.”
Boateng received the coach B license in a special course of the Bavarian Football Association in November last year. The 2014 world champion had played ten years for FC Bayern by 2021. After that, he was no longer able to build on the successful time at his wards at Olympique Lyon in France, at the US Salernitana in Italy and at the LASK in Austria.
