Werder goes away empty-handed: Leipzig striker changes to Spain

Werder Bremen draws the shorter in the advertising of striker André Silva. Instead, the attacker leaves RB Leipzig towards Spain.
Already in the past few days, the people responsible for Werder Bremen had hardly hoped for a transfer by striker André Silva. Now it is official: the future of the attacker is in Spain. RB Leipzig announced the change of 29-year-old to La-Liga promoted FC Elche on Monday afternoon.
“André has always behaved professionally and in a team at RB Leipzig. Even in a phase challenging for him, he also accepted his role with a great character and exemplary attitude,” said sports manager Marcel Schäfer. Details of the contract details have not been communicated. According to reports, the replacement should be in the range of 1.5 million euros.
The 29-year-old striker moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to Leipzig in the summer of 2021 for around 23 million euros and played a total of 110 games in the RB jersey. In the 2023/2024 season he ran for Real Sociedad, in the second half of the past season he was awarded to Werder Bremen. The Portuguese, who won the DFB Cup with the Saxons in 2022 and 2023, was not able to assert itself properly.
Werder, however, has acute need for position in the forefront after the departures of Oliver Burke (Union Berlin) and Marvin Ducksch (Birmingham City). In eight test games during the summer preparation, Werder remained four times without his own goal-as did the first round in the DFB Cup against second division team Arminia Bielefeld (0: 1).
A candidate who could end the Hanseatic storm flaut is said to be Michael Gregoritsch. According to the “Bild”, the Austrian is on Werder’s shopping list. The 31-year-old at SC Freiburg currently has a contract until 2026. His market value is estimated by the data portal “Transfermarkt.de” to three million euros.
