In the first round of the DFB Cup, Fortuna Düsseldorf averted a bankruptcy against outsider Schweinfurt. Mainz benefited from a weak penalty.
Fortuna Düsseldorf is in the second round of the DFB Cup after a wild game. Fortuna won 4-2 against third division team 1. FC Schweinfurt. The outsider had set the first blow and took the lead in the 44th minute through a converted penalty from Manuel Wintzheimer. After the break, however, Düsseldorf turned and took the lead through goals from Shinta Appelkamp (66.), Cedric Itten (68th) and Florent Muslija (72nd) within six minutes. Schweinfurt did not give up, came through Erik Shuranov again in the 83rd minute, but only three minutes later Appelkamp made everything clear with his second goal.
After two defeats at the start of the 2nd Bundesliga, Fortuna has thus averted the complete false start into the season. Bundesliga club Mainz 05 celebrated a successful competitive game in the parallel game and prevailed 1-0 against Dynamo Dresden. Nadiem Amiri scored the golden goal in the 22nd minute with a remarkable free kick. In the 66th minute, Dresden gave the chance to equalize from the penalty point.
Düsseldorf initially started nervous, but then came into play better. When the lead was in the air, Fortuna fell behind. In the event of a rare relief attack by the Schweinfurter, Moritz Heyer got the ball in the penalty area on his arm after a cross, Wintzheimer remained ice cold.
After the break, the Thioune team increased the pressure. Appelkamp equalized with a handsome Schlenzer, just two minutes later the new striker Itten dusted the lead after Schweinfurt’s goalkeeper Maximilian Weisbäcker was only able to defend a long -range shot forward. Muslija followed. Shuranov brought the third division team back – but Appelkamp cleared the doubts.
However, the 05s would have liked to play the cup game at the weekend, but both the application for relocation and the objection to the DFB Federal Court were rejected-much for the lack of understanding of FSV sports director Christian Heidel. “What happened there is a farce for me,” said the 62-year-old before the kick-off at Sky and criticized those responsible at the DFB: “A few men just slept very, very deeply.”
The Mainz, in which strikers Nelson Weiper did not stand in the squad due to change discussions, did not appear at all before the mammoth program with five games in 14 days at the beginning. Zentner (3rd) and Dominik Kohr (6th) saved twice in the end, especially SGD strikers Nils Fröling left several good opportunities for the underdog.
But then Amiri provided the chest removal with his free kick from 25 meters. As a result, the guests were better and could have added twice by Paul Nebel (33./41.). In the second half, the game continued at eye level, Lemmer had the best chance of equalizing with his weakly shot penalty after Ben Bobzien’s handball. Henriksen saw the red card in the hectic final phase because of the game delay outside of his coaching zone and had to go to the stands (87th).
