Tottenham Hotspur has extended the contract of new captain Cristian Romero (27) prematurely. According to the North Londonians, the central defender, originally bound by 2027, signed a long -term working paper. According to media reports, the new term should be four years.
Romero initially came to the Spurs in the summer of 2021 by Atalanta Bergamo, which then committed him to 52 million euros. The Argentinian world champion played 126 games for Tottenham to date (eight goals), with a market value of 50 million euros he is in addition to defense colleague Micky van de Ven (24) and offensive player Dejan Kulusevski (25) most valuable player in the squad of Neu-coach Thomas Frank.
From the point of view of the Danes, Romero embodies “all the right properties” that it takes to enter the footsteps of Heung-Min Son (33) as a captain. “He leads on the pitch through his behavior, drives the team ahead in every respect and outside the square he keeps motivating the team,” Frank recently explained his choice. Properties that, among other things, had also launched Atlético Madrid – without success.
Romero, who triumphed with Tottenham in May in the Europa League in May, described the name as a captain as “an incredible honor. I arrived here four years ago with a single dream: to write my name in the club’s history and leave my traces by winning a trophy.”
