The most famous bird in Raamsdonksveer flies around again. After complaints about aggressive behavior, the blue-yellow parrot was not allowed outside for more than two weeks. The police even came to the door. “But Oro would never hurt anyone,” assured owner Chris Mallens.

Staying mandatory was no fun for the 6.5 year old parrot. “Stressful!”, That’s how Chris describes the punishment. “He shouted in front of the window all day. He walked up and down on the windowsill. Oro really suffered from this.”

The parrot has been an icon nearby for years. His owner regularly lets him fly around freely. The bird would have recently attacked women and children. “I don’t believe it at all,” says Chris.

Complaint

The police talk about ‘several complaints’ about the bird on Monday. According to the spokesperson, it is up to the municipality to take any measures. “We only maintain.”

The municipality of Geertruidenberg announced that it had had one complaint about Oro. “We are in internal consultation whether follow -up measures are needed.” The municipality did not say that the bird had to stay inside and did not take any other measures.

“Wiek only briefly, the agent said,” says Chris. “That would be a disaster. Then he will be depressed! Oro will pick up.” The agent would have said that the bird could be seized in the most extreme case. “To prevent nuisance and complaints, we kept him in during the summer holidays,” says Chris.

Safe
Now the school holiday in the south is over and children go back to school. The owner also had contact with the reporter. “That is a woman who jogs. She now applies me when she starts walking. Then I keep the bird in.” That way the ARA could not bother anyone.

Local residents who Omroep Brabant Monday afternoon speaks are very enthusiastic that the bird is outside again. “Oro! Oro!”, A woman calls enthusiastically to the animal, when Oro sits in a tree in her street. “It’s a beautiful bird!” Says 66-year-old Franka van Wanrooij. “What nonsense, those complaints. He doesn’t hurt anyone.”

“It’s my big friend! I always give him some goodies,” says 40-year-old local resident Stefan Buis. He even lets him sit on his shoulder. He shines with happiness. “Cozy, right!”

Chris understands that the bird can be impressive. “Oro has a wingspan of 75 centimeters.” He thinks that low flying over people is wrongly confused with an attack. Whether Oro is dangerous? “Absolutely not. He doesn’t attack, I am convinced of that.”
