The party board of DENK immediately resigns its position to “lay the foundation for the right circumstances in which the coming elections can be prepared”. The party board writes this on Sunday in consultation with the House of Representatives in a press release that is distributed via social media. The statement states that a general members’ meeting is being convened and that Tunahan Kuzu, former political leader of DENK, is nominated as a new chairman.

The party writes that “agreements have been made for a definitive solution for the situation that has arisen.” The House of Representatives “owes the party board for the dignity with which it opts for this solution for the situation that has arisen in the party interest”.

Last week party leader Stephan van Baarle resigned his position because of a power struggle between the Lower House Group and the party board. Whether Van Baarle returns as a party leader is still unclear. “In recent days, Stephan has become deep,” the group writes NRC. “It does a lot with him, also on a personal level. For us as a group it is still certain that he is the only real party leader, we want to support him in it and therefore start a conversation with him.”
