Historical misunderstanding tackled: Africa much larger than you think and ‘every card lies a bit’

The African Union – in which 55 countries on the continent are united – wants to deal with a persistent misunderstanding that has determined our worldview for centuries: the map on which Africa seems smaller than it actually is. On the familiar Mercator projection of the world, Greenland looks almost as large as Africa, while the African continent is in reality fifteen times larger.
