Noah Lyles is the Olympic champion over 100 meters and also wants to defend his World Cup title in Tokyo. However, he has now been beaten at the Diamond League meeting.

At the Olympic Games in Paris last year, US star Noah Lyles won over 100 meters of gold. At that time, Jamaican Kishane Thompson finished second – with just five thousandths of leaves behind Lyles. At the Diamond League Meeting in Poland on Saturday, both sprinters met again for the first time to the Olympics.

This time the Jamaican prevailed over 100 meters in 9.87 seconds. The 24-year-old equalized the meeting engruit, but remained over his world’s best time of 9.75 seconds. Lyles took second place in 9.90 seconds.

Thompson then said: “It felt okay. My job is to do the work. To be honest, I compete with myself, not with the competition.”

Thompson is down to earth and described himself as “boring types” in the Netflix documentary “Sprint”. Lyles, on the other hand, make a show from every start on the Tartanbahn. After his second place on Saturday, he said that it was a “great step” forward.

The result of the competition is also exciting in that the World Athletics World Championship will take place in Tokyo from September 13th. Two years ago in Budapest, Lyles won over 100 and 200 meters and chose triple world champion through the relay success. At that time, Thomposon could not qualify for the World Cup – now he made Lyles another announcement for the World Cup in Tokyo after his best time of the world.
