It’s about the so -called Salmon trip,, ” An initiative of salmon fishermen from the southwest of the Netherlands. Since 1995, the fleet has been sailing to the Amsterdam region in the days before Sail, to connect to the North Sea Canal during the Sail-In.

The tour started in Woudrichem (Noord-Brabant) and leads the ‘Armada’ via Vreeswijk and Gouda to Zaandam, among others.

Fleet

In addition to salmon chimneys, drag, sailing and motor boats also sail into the fleet. During the stops in Vreeswijk, Gouda, Uithoorn and Ouder-Amstel, visitors can view the ships up close and talk to the fishermen and skippers.

According to the Promotion Uithoorn Foundation, there are 22 nostalgic ships to Amstelland. The skippers moor from 2 p.m. on the Amstel side. For that they come over the Amstel near Uithoorn, where two aldermen from Uithoorn and Ouder-Amstel will go on board.

Shanty’s and herring

The ships are expected to be on the program between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Ouderkerk, after which activities are on the program until 9 p.m. While enjoying Shanty’s, visitors can view the fleet, eat a herring or slurp. There is also plenty to do for children. Admission is free.

After an overnight stay in Ouderkerk, the skippers and fishermen continue their journey to Zaandam on 19 August around 10 am. They will join the Sail-in on Wednesday.
