For a day of unlimited travel by bus through Drenthe and Groningen. That is possible in the summer months with a Breader’s card. More and more travelers are purchasing such a ticket and that is reason for the Groningen-Drenthe public transport agency to continue.

After the summer months, the Breadezzn’s card is also available on the weekends, writes Sun! 34.

According to the public transport agency, 6,400 tickets were sold in July, 11 percent more than last year. Among other things, there is a lot of use of the longer lines between Assen, Emmen and Groningen. The Breadezzn’s card is intended for two adult people and no more than six children in total.

“We see that people discover travel by bus,” said Tess ten Have, policy advisor OV agency Groningen-Drenthe. “Many of the day tickets are sold in Emmen and Coevorden. The line between Emmen and Groningen is popular. For example, travelers come to visit the butterfly market.”

After Switzerland, the Netherlands has the most expensive public transport network in the world. This is evident from research From Compare The Market from 2023. The public transport agency sees the BreadeZzn’n cards as a low-threshold action: “We hope that more people will use the bus.”

In 2023 it was announced that five hundred bus stops will disappear in five years. Drenthe is a leader with a decrease of 17 percent. Travelers association Rover speaks of ‘transport poverty’.

Ten Have: “I think it is good to realize that fewer stops are not necessarily equal to less public transport. We keep an eye on which stops travelers use a lot. In addition, we can make bus connections faster. You sometimes have to walk or cycle to get to the stop. People who have a poor walk can use a hub taxi.”
