• Around 983,000 Bitcoin addresses contain at least one whole BTC
• Crypto organizations often bundle the credit of millions of users
• Of the maximum of 21 million bitcoins, around 20 million are already in circulation

Wallets say little about owners

The blockchain reveals how many addresses there are and what amounts bitcoins are on it, but it does not show how many people are actually behind it. The difference between the blockchain data and the real number of owners illustrates how concentrated the possession of Bitcoin is actually distributed. Some investors distribute their stocks over several wallets, while crypta organizations often keep their millions of users’ credit in a few addresses. Large companies or funds also store their stocks on many addresses for security reasons. As Investopedia emphasizes, this means that the number of addresses with a whole bitcoin is higher.

Rarity of the “wholeco” status

Investopedia currently assumes around 983,000 addresses on which at least one bitcoin is located. There is a significantly smaller circle of owners behind the numbers. For comparison: According to a survey by Triple -A from 2024, 6.8 percent of the world’s population – around 560 million people, have cryptocurrencies. The overwhelming majority of the crypto holders only have fractions of a bitcine or instead holds other cryptocurrencies. Haking a whole Bitcoin is now very unusual and can be considered exclusive. Anyone who has a whole Bitcoin as an individual receives the so -called “wholecoid” status in the specialist circles.

The true number of Bitcoin owners

Investopedia estimates that only between 800,000 and 850,000 people actually have full Bitcoin. The difference is easy to explain: one person can have several addresses, and many addresses are part of trading platforms that Bitcoin keep on behalf of their customers. The currently largest wallet with the most bitcoins holds 248,598 BTC, which is just 1.25 percent of the total amount. This wallet is attributed to the KryptoBörse Binance and is therefore also the only wallet address with stocks over one percent.

The thing with the BTC shortage

Around 20 million of the maximum possible 21 million bitcoins are now in circulation. A significant part of this lies with large institutional investors such as Strategy (former Microstrategy), which alone has several hundred thousand BTC. For private investors, this means that the purchase of an entire bitcoin is not only expensive, but also increasingly difficult. This scarcity makes the possession of a complete bitcoin for many a symbol of exclusivity and a goal that only a few achieve. According to Bitinfocharts, around 1.145 million addresses are richer than $ 100,000.
