Almost three weeks after his third place at the Tour de France, Florian Lipowitz was received in his hometown Laichingen. The fans celebrated the cycling professional on the marketplace.
“Lipoflitz – please a signature. Thank you!” It says on one of the many posters that can be seen on Saturday afternoon on the Laichingen market square. Celebrate fans, family and friends the tour thirds and winners of the white jerseys Florian Lipowitz, which the great success has not changed. The 24-year-old is still reserved, down-to-earth and rather economical, as he tells in an interview with SWR Sport. When he returns to his hometown Laichingen – as for the reception – he sleeps in his old children’s room.

As a culinary reward after third place in Paris, there was lenses with spaetzle, Florian Lipowitz recalls: “This is my favorite dish and my mom can do that pretty well.” His family is always his most important support anyway. It was a crazy time for girlfriend Antonia: “It was indescribable. You can’t put that into words.” Florian Lipowitz also needed something to realize what happened in France. Only on his vacation did he gradually understand what he did on the tour. “Of course I’m super happy. Actually, I’m going there to go through and arrive in Paris. Then at the end of standing on the podium is of course something really special.”

Something special, but it was also particularly exhausting: “The last three days were super hard – not only physically, but also mentally.” His body urgently needed a break after the Tour de France. “We made a street festival and then he said he needs peace,” says Grandma Christa. “We were on Lake Garda and then he came and lay on the lake with the air mattress for two hours and said: That was pure for him.”
And this relaxation also included putting the cell phone aside. Because that was no longer quiet after his success almost three weeks ago. “I got quite a few messages – not only on WhatsApp, but also on Instagram. My profile has exploded a bit.”
His appearance at the Tour de France made Florian Lipowitz much better known. “When I’m in team clothing, one or the other will recognize me. But it is still limited.” Almost everyone knows him in his home town of Laichingen. There, in particular, his parents are repeatedly asked about him. “But that’s also something nice,” says the tour third, which now lives in Seefeld.

To be celebrated in Laichingen from more than 1,000 fans is something very special for the 24-year-old: “Of course it is nice if you are received in the hometown. I am pleased that the city could do what and I could come here.” Most fans came to reception in the bike outfit, are pending for autographs and photos with their idol. “I find it astonishing how far he has already come on his first tour,” says one fan and another adds: “I think it’s mega strong, I am thrilled.”
