Mohamed Ihattaren leaves from RKC Waalwijk to Fortuna Sittard. The 23-year-old midfielder has signed a contract for one season with the Limburg Eredivisionist, with an option for another year. Both clubs have confirmed the transfer.

Ihattaren had the opportunity at RKC last year to breathe new life into his career. In 27 official games he came to four goals and five assists. Despite his contribution, the club relegated to the Kitchen Champion Division last season. Ihattaren still had a contract until mid -2026, but wanted to continue to play at the highest level.

“It is beyond what Mohamed is an extremely good football player,” says Technical Director Bernard Schuiteman of RKC. “It is just as crystal clear that last year it was RKC Waalwijk that Mohamed gave the chance and the confidence that he needed so hard at that time to give his career a positive boost.”

‘Next step’
“Mohamed has been open and honest about his ambitions from the outset,” he continues. “When Fortuna Sittard reported to us for Mohamed, we therefore talked to that club. We are satisfied with the outcome and thank Mohamed for his commitment to RKC Waalwijk and wish him a successful continuation of his career.”

Ihat himself is also looking forward to his new challenge: “At RKC Waalwijk I got the chance to find my pleasure in football, at Fortuna I now get the opportunity to take the next step,” he says. “The conversations with the trainer were very good and convinced me that this is the right step, also because I wanted to stay in the Netherlands.”

Ihattaren was trained at PSV and debuted there at the age of 16 in the first team. His foreign adventure at Juventus ended in a disappointment: he did not play any official match for the Italian club.

Also during rental periods at Sampdoria and Ajax he hardly came to play. In 2024 he made his return to the Dutch fields at RKC.
