The message is: the work is halfway through, so keep up, according to a spokesperson.

The Hempont between Amsterdam and Zaandam has busy weeks, because from the moment the Coentunnel is closed – 12 July – for work, car traffic flows.

At the same time, there are also more cyclists who use the ferry. That influx was expected by Amsterdam, the cooperation between the municipality, transport region and Rijkswaterstaat, among others.

Extra ferry

That is why the ferry now sails every ten minutes. And that ensures satisfied cyclists. “Certainly on the way back, then you miss it,” said a traveler. “Now there will be another one again. So that’s a good thing, they can love me that way.”

For motorists and trucks, that extra ferry is pleasant, but not always enough to prevent the crowds. “Sometimes you have to skip a few boats yes, but luckily it is not too bad today,” describes a motorist. A cyclist: “Sorry for all those motorists who are waiting there, I cycle past it.”
