The cup fever increases: from Friday the ball will roll again in Germany’s most important cup competition. However, Eintracht Braunschweig has a break. Why?

Floodlights, full ranks and potential football miracles: all of this awaits fans from Friday. Because then the 1st round of the DFB Cup is on the program. By Monday evening, clubs from Upper to Bundesliga will duel to the next round. In the game plan on the schedule, supporters of Eintracht Braunschweig in vain.

As one of four teams, Eintracht only competes in the DFB Cup around a week and a half later. On Tuesday, August 26, the BTSV welcomes defending champion VfB Stuttgart (8:45 p.m.) in the Eintracht Stadium at home. The next day, FC Bayern Munich completes the first cup round with his guest performance at third division Wehen Wiesbaden (August 27, 8:45 p.m.).

The reason: VfB and FC Bayern in the DFL supercup compete on the planned-and now immediately upcoming-cup weekend. The duel between the cup winner and the German champion of the past season rises on Saturday (8.30 p.m.). In both competitions in parallel or on consecutive days, the two clubs cannot logically compete.

The cup game against the clear favorite from Swabia for Eintracht Braunschweig would currently have come at a favorable time. After victories against 1st FC Magdeburg (1-0) and Greuther Fürth (3: 2) at the second league start, there is euphoria around the team of the new coach Heiner Backhaus.

The next competitive game on August 23 (1 p.m.) is a guest appearance at Karlsruher SC on the program before the following Tuesday evening against VfB.

Incidentally, for those who cannot experience the game in the stadium, a free alternative is ready: The cup duel with Stuttgart not only runs on Pay TV channel Sky, but also in the ARD on Free TV. Summaries can also be seen at the streaming provider DAZN and on linear television at Sport1.
