Zelenski: ‘Meeting with Trump is a personal victory for Putin’
The Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski states that Russian President Vladimir Putin has achieved a “personal victory” by being invited to consult with US President Donald Trump in the United States. According to him, the meeting has delayed sanctions against Russia.
Trump and Putin speak to each other on Friday in the city of Anchorage, in the northern state of Alaska, for a one-to-one conversation about the war in Ukraine. According to the White House, the details still have to be worked out. Zelenski states that his Russian colleague with the meeting “comes from his isolation”.
Zelenski has expressed worries that Russia will make hard demands and that Trump concludes an agreement in which Ukraine should give up large pieces of territory. He excludes that Ukraine will withdraw from the Donbas. Russia wants Ukraine to give up this eastern area, consisting of the Donetsk and Loehansk regions.
