DE Volkskrant Last week, Geert Wilders’ newest flat -floor election stunt ‘decided to ignore’ initially, as editor -in -chief Pieter Klok formulated it in his weekly section. Wilders provokes to attract the debate, according to Klok, “we prefer not to be a part of this mechanism.”
The newspaper was unable to sustain this for a very long time. The readers began to grind, after all, as the editor -in -chief describes it himself, “clearly racist visual language” that reminded of the language of the Nazis. Wilders had placed an image on X with a face in two: on the left a young blonde civilized woman (PVV), on the right a bright weakness woman (PvdA).
Do we have to be surprised about it for longer? On the X account of Wilders I saw another, slightly older (July 29) video that he had taken over from Tiktok. On the beach of Scheveningen, a number of headscarves listen to an Arab singer relaxed. Wilders responds with the sentence: “Only the camels are still missing.”
Such a sentence is already racist enough throughout its rude contempt. The politician who prides in public on this kind of humor should not be ignored, but followed extremely critically. They will be with de Volkskrant Also do it from now on. The tendency to ignore Wilders is understandable, because you give him where he is going to row: attention. But pretending that he does not exist does not help, it will only make him and his supporters more overperture.
This is especially true for the period up to the elections of 29 October. Wilders will not shun a method to make his arch enemies suspicious at the PvdA and D66. Insults, accusations, manipulations in debates – especially Frans Timmermans can wet his somewhat narrower breast.
It will get worse than ever before in Dutch politics, because Wilders has a lot to lose. He has already lost his power – entirely by his own fault – in a disappointing elections, he also won his influence. Only then do the media no longer have to take his lies and defamation seriously in the more luxurious position.
Will I be too optimistic now? Maybe, but I notice that thanks to Dilan Yesilgöz I went out my holiday more happier than went into it. Her hopeless failure in the Douwe Bob issue paves the road for a more moderate successor, who will have to take the VVD by the hand for her. The best forces of VVD, GroenLinks-PvdA, D66 and CDA must then jointly clean up the chunks that Wilders has left behind.
The VVD together with Timmermans? Yes, you can. Even Timmermans as Prime Minister? I always say to invalid, fearful VVD people: “You think that Timmermans is the new Marx, but do you know who his great example is? Joop den Uyl? No, Max van der Stoel, who is so exemplary for human rights.”
