Have a mandatory eye test done every 70-year-old to be allowed to drive: a good idea or not?

The British government wants to do something about the insecurity on the local roads. One of the announced measures is a mandatory three-year eye test for people over 70. However, the most recent British accident figures (2023) prove that older drivers are not the most dangerous, but that serious accidents occur more often among the youngest drivers.
