Those who come to cycle at the parking lot of FC Zuidlaren cannot ignore it. Everywhere you hear the sound of enthusiastic children and the ticking of Hamers. Among other things, a hotel, casino, veterinary practice, playground and a house are being built.
“Some children want to take the hut home to put it in the garden,” says Ingrid Wester, chairman of Kinderdorp Zuidlaren. “Our secret? A lot of wood, always nice weather and enthusiastic children.”
During the fifteenth edition of Kinderdorp Zuidlaren, 350 children carpentate their own creation for a week. “We were sold out in no time,” says Wester. “Unfortunately we had to disappoint children. We now have a waiting list. With 350 cards it stops. We have to guarantee safety, there must be room and enough volunteers.”
The village will be opened on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. Until that time, parents, grandfathers, grandmothers, brothers and sisters are not allowed on the site. “That is difficult for some parents,” laughs Wester. “Children like it so much to show what they have made on Friday. Of course, parents really like that to see.”
