Arminia Bielefeld was the cup fright in the past season. In the first round, the Bundesliga clubs should be warned: We reveal which favorites are there for.
The fact that the outsiders can be expected in the DFB Cup showed Arminia Bielefeld clearly last year. The East Westphalia made it to Berlin as a third division team, where they failed at VfB Stuttgart. It was similar in the previous year. Then the 1st FC Kaiserslautern made it to the final as a second division team and lost only Bayer Leverkusen there. The 1st FC Saarbrücken came to the semi -finals at least that year as a third division team.
Bremen has to go back to Bielefeld
It is not surprising that a number of underdogs hope for a sensation in the first cup round. Above all, of course, Arminia Bielefeld. The team is now no longer a third division club, but currently leader of the 2nd Bundesliga.
Therefore, a first round victory against Werder Bremen is quite possible and would not be a sensation. Because while the Arminia is fully in the juice, the game for Werder is a cold start. For the green-whites it is also the first competitive game under the new coach Horst Steffen. And Werder really has bad memories of the Arminia. Because last year the North Germans lost 1-2 at the Alm in the quarter -finals.
Leverkusen at the accurate Regional league table leader
Bayer Leverkusen also travels to the latest table. SG Sonnenhof Großaspach leads the regional league Southwest and won two victories with a total of ten goals on the first two match days. For the runner -up from Leverkusen, who is in transition after numerous departures and has a new trainer with Erik Ten HAG, the task could be quite tricky.
Hoffenheim in Rostock and Mainz in Dresden
This also applies to TSG Hoffenheim, who has caught an ambitious third division team with Hansa Rostock. It was even worse at the draw for the 1st FSV Mainz 05, because opponent Dynamo Dresden is now playing in the 2nd Bundesliga. Rostock and Dresden are famous for their vocal attachment, which is why it could be tight for Hoffenheim and Mainz alone.
The Rheinhessen go to Dresden with a bad mood anyway. Mainz 05 tried everything to move the first round game to have more break in front of the Conference League. However, the club failed before the DFB federal court.
North derby between Norderstedt and St. Pauli
There are almost 22 kilometers between Norderstedt and St. Pauli. You can speak of a northern derby at least spatially, and they usually have it all anyway.
For Eintracht, it is one of the largest games in the 80th anniversary of the club. But we are already with the problem. Because the domestic arena is partly dilapidated, the St. Pauli Stadium is kicked off at the Millerntor. So for Norderstedt it is actually an away game. The Bundesliga club should by no means underestimate the opponent from the Regionalliga Nord. Because what would be more beautiful than bowling out of the cup in his own stadium?
“This is of course a highlight for us. St. Pauli is a big challenge in terms of sport – but also a great motivation for my boys”said coach Elard Ostermann after the draw: “And that we have practically got a derby, gives the game a special atmosphere again.”
Bang for Essen, Dortmund is coming
Speaking of derby. At Rot-Weiss Essen, the joy was huge when Borussia Dort-mouth was drawn. It is a duel with tradition. After all, both played against each other in the Bundesliga, which of course only the older ones can remember. In the stadium on Hafenstraße, BVB awaits a mood that is second to none in such duels – all of this under floodlights and on Monday live in the sports show in the first. The kick -off is at 8:45 p.m. “I think everyone in Essen is looking forward to this game. Especially we players. Then it is still at home on Hafenstraße at home”said José-Enrique Rios Alonso about “Reviersport Online”.
Euphoric Braunschweig against the Defending champion
And it won’t be easy for the defending champion VfB Stuttgart either. A second division club as an opponent is an ungrateful lot anyway. And at the Eintracht from Braunschweig, there is also a lot of euphoria after the great start to the season with two victories under the new coach Heiner Backhaus.
Because of the Supercup against FC Bayern Munich (August 16), the Swabians only have to go to Eintracht on Tuesday, August 26th – which in no way reduces the risk of stumbling for the favorite. This game will also be shown live in the sports show in the first.
Maybe Union Berlin also stumbles in Gütersloh
And the other Bundesliga clubs? They must first survive with their subclass opponents. After all, there were always sensations in the DFB Cup.
Maybe FC Gütersloh Union Berlin can annoy or FK Pirmasens the Hamburger SV. The Bahlinger SC expects 1. FC Heidenheim and SV Sandhausen are looking forward to RB Leipzig.
Or maybe SV Hemelingen puts one leg out of VfL Wolfsburg or Sportfreunde Lotte Kegeln from SC Freiburg. Eintracht Frankfurt should not underestimate FV Engers 07 and Jahn Regensburg, opponent of the 1st FC Köln, played second division last year.
Atlas Delmenhorst gives himself quiet hopes against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Hallecher FC wants to put one leg on FC Augsburg and SV Wehen Wiesbaden dreams against Bayern Munich of the very big sensation. All outsiders can dream anyway. Arminie Bielefeld showed it.
