Depeche Mode has officially confirmed that your concert film “M” will be shown in cinemas around the world from October 28, 2025. The premiere takes place in more than 2,500 cinemas in over 60 countries. The project was created in cooperation with Trafalgar Releasing and Sony Music Vision and is intended to offer fans an opportunity to experience the special connection between the band to Mexico on the screen.
A homage to music, culture and transience
Announced in April and was enthusiastic at this year’s Tribeca Festival, the film shows the shows of the “Memento Mori” tour in the Foro Sol Stadion in Mexico City. Fernando Frías, who embedded Depeche Modes in a cultural context, directed Fernando Frías – between music, traditions and the Mexican examination of death.
“Basically, M is about the deep connection between music, culture and people,” explains singer Dave Gahan. In addition to live recordings, the film also illuminates the multicultural influences of the band and the emotional journey after the death of founding member Andy Fletcher in May 2022.
Frías uses the energy of the three completely sold out concerts to capture the bond between the audience and the band. The recordings combine intimate moments with stage staging – from the setlist to breastfeeding, thoughtful scenes between the songs.
Record tour and moving new beginning
The “Memento Mori” tour led Depeche Mode between 2023 and 2024 to 112 concerts worldwide, in front of a total of over three million fans. Almost 200,000 spectators came in Mexico City alone. The album of the same name was the first without Fletcher and marked a fresh start for Gahan and Martin Gore.
Trafalgar releasing CEO Marc Allenby speaks of a “perfect celebration of this tour and the global fan community”. The pre -sale for the film starts on September 17th, 2025. FCan register online for notifications and secure tickets.
Critical praise and uncertain future plans
Dave Gahan leaves open whether and when new material or other tours of Depeche Mode will follow – he initially wants to charge the creative battery.
“After such a tour, it takes time for you to find normal life again,” said Gahan in an interview. “You never know if you do it again. So: give the best as long as it works.”
