Whether or not swim at the Noord Aa Strand: this is the advice

Cooling on a summer day at the Noord Aa is something that many Zoetermeerders enjoy. But is the water also of good quality?

The website swimming water.nl keeps track of the quality of the Dutch outdoor swimming spots. Between 1 May and 1 October, inspectors check the bathing water for, among other things, the presence of bacteria and other types of contamination, such as blue -green algae.

On the ticket below you see the quality of the swimming water per location in the Netherlands, including all swimming locations in and around Zoetermeer. Is there a negative advice or other warning, so it is better not to swim somewhere? Then the card is automatically updated.

The assessment of water quality at the Noord Aa is good at the time of writing. This applies to both the play pond, the swimming beach and the nudist beach.

Negative swimming advice and ban

A swimming place receives negative swimming advice if the quality of the swimming water does not meet the correct government requirements. For example, it is checked whether there are not too many certain bacteria (intestinal enterococci (ie) and Escherichia coli (E. Coli)) Prevent in the water. The water manager also inspects blue algae or other toxic algae.

But are you obliged to adhere to that advice? The answer is no, it is an advice and not a ban. If you still want to swim in that water, you can. If a general swimming ban has been established, it is forbidden to enter the water. That happens when the risk that you really get sick is very high. You can read more about that here.
