Jennifer Aniston knows only too well the difficulties that it brings when friends fight with addiction problems. In a new interview with “Vanity Fair”, the actress explained that she had the feeling that she had grieved the deceased Matthew Perry long before his death. Perry died after a long fight against addiction and psychological problems.
“I am glad that he is out of this pain”
“We did everything we could when we could,” said Aniston. “But it almost felt like we had mourned Matthew for a long time because his struggle with this disease was really difficult for him to win.”
She added: “As difficult as it was for all of us and for the fans – part of me thinks it is better. I am glad that he is out of this pain.”
Perry died of the acute consequences of ketamine in October 2023 at the age of 54.
In a conversation “Actors on Actors” with Reese Witherspoon for “Variet” Y In 2023, Aniston told that she had spoken to Perry via SMS on the day of his death.
“As he said, he wanted to be remembered. He was happy. He was healthy. He had stopped smoking. He was in shape,” said Aniston to Witherspoon. “He was happy – that’s all I know. I wrote with him this morning, funny Matty. He had no pain. He had no problems. He was happy.”
Farewell to a friend and colleague
A few weeks after his death, Aniston also published an Instagram tribute to Perry. She wrote that the farewell to him was “a crazy wave of emotions that I have never experienced before”.
“We loved him very much. He was part of our DNA. We were always six,” she wrote, alluding to her “Friends” colleagues. “It was an elective family who changed the course of who we were and where our way would go.”
Last month, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, a doctor who was charged with the death of the actor, guilty of the distribution of ketamine in four cases. The charges provide for a maximum total penalty of 40 years of federal prison. The sentence is to be announced on December 3.
Authorities stated that Perry had become “dependent” on intravenous ketamine when he was treated in a local clinic in autumn 2023 for depression and anxiety. When the clinic refused to increase its dose, he contacted the four defendants in the case.
