Germany’s hockey women suffered a violent damper at the home European Championships in Mönchengladbach.

The team of national coach Janneke Schopman lost 1: 5 (1: 4) to the Netherlands after a capital false start and after his first tournament defeat on Wednesday (8 p.m.) in a “final” against Ireland for the semi -finals.

After 35 seconds, the selection of the German Hockey Association (DHB) was behind on Monday evening with Freeke Moes’ goal. Without the injured Sonja Zimmermann (thighs) and Felicia Wiedermann (knee), the Olympic fourth was missing the order in defense.

Frédérique Matla (10th) and Pien Sanders (13th) expanded the leadership for the record winners to 3-0 in the first quarter.

Netherlands dominate

After the successful start of the home European Championships against France (4: 1), the DHB women had looked at a surprise, the false start and the injury-related setbacks also rejected hope for a close game early.

The Netherlands, which have been unbeaten for 22 EM games in a row, dominated and increased in the further course of the game by Sanders (24th) and Marijn Veen (54.). Germany only came to honor goal after a penalty corner by Lena Micheel (19th).

Victory is necessary

Germany (3 points) now needs a victory against the Irishes (0) in order to solve the ticket for the semi -finals in the remote duel of group A with France (3). The first two teams of the two groups of four reach the preliminary round.

The Netherlands (6) have secured the progress on the way to their 13th EM triumph. The German men, who have had a victory and a draw on the account so far, can make it perfect in the third group game on Tuesday against Poland (7.30 p.m./Magenta Sport).
