FC Twente confirms departure Michel Vlap to Qatar

FC Twente has officially announced the transfer from Michel Vlap to Al-Ahli in Qatar. The midfielder was previously able to relocate this transfer summer to the Russian Spartak Moscow, but the negotiations between the clubs did not make a success. Vlap now makes a financial hit and signs at the Qatarese club for three years.

Because VLAP’s contract ends in mid -2026, FC Twente was open for a sale of the midfielder to not let him walk out of the door. The transfer fee that Al-Ahli pays is below the amount that Spartak Moscow had offered. Where the Russians were willing to pay 3.5 million euros plus 1 million in possible bonuses, the transfer fee is now around 2 million euros.

VLAP played for FC Twente for four seasons, the first season on a rental basis, after which the midfielder from Sneek was definitively taken over from Anderlecht for 2 million. De Fries has 162 games for FC Twente behind his name and came up with 20 goals and 22 assists. The midfielder previously played for SC Heerenveen, Anderlecht and Arminia Bielefeld.

Earlier this summer, FC Twente sold SEM Steijn to Feyenoord (for 10 million euros), Michal Sadilek to Slavia Prague (for 3.5 million euros) and Carel Eiting to Omonio Nicosia (for 400,000 euros). The club from Enschede strengthened itself with Robin Pröpper (Rangers FC), Stav Lemkin (Shakhtar Donetsk, was rented to Maccabi Tel Aviv), Kristian Hlynsson (Ajax), Thomas van den Belt (Feyenoord), Guilherme PEYMOOT).

After the rental this week of Sayf Ltaief to Sparta, there was also room to add the desired left -hand deputy with scoring ability to the selection. FC Twente hopes to add the Norwegian attacker Sondre Orjasaeter from Sarpsborg to the selection in the short term.
