Athlete Tobias Potye won the international high jump meeting in Heilbronn.
The 30-year-old mastered the height of 2.27 meters on Sunday (10.08.2025) as the only athlete of the top-class starter field. In the final phase of the competition, Potye prevailed against Olympic champion Hamish Kerr from New Zealand and the Czechs Jan Stefela. Both had achieved three invalid attempts at 2.27 m.
Potye first casual, then he makes it exciting
Potye is born in Munich, but is now starting for the Cologne Athletics association. At the European Championships in 2022 in his hometown, the reigning and repeated German champions had won the silver medal.
In Heilbronn he missed the initial height of some competitors of 2.10 m and entered the competition at 2.15 m. He needed three attempts for 2.24 m and for the later decisive 2.27 m.
Tamberi does not pack the 2.24 meters
For Falk Wendrich (Soest) and Mateusz Przybylko (Bielefeld) it was over after 2.20 m. The same applies to high jump superstar Gianmarco Tamberi from Italy – Tokyo Olympic champion from 2021 – who achieved three invalid attempts over 2.24 m.
The international high jump meeting took place in Heilbronn on the market square. Christina Honsel (Dorsten) had already won the competition of women on Saturday. The 28-year-old was the first German to crack the two-meter brand in eight years.
