PSV has started the new season convincingly. The national champion had no trouble with Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday evening in the Philips Stadium: 6-1. Due to the large win, PSV is immediately in the lead in the Eredivisie.

In the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale last week it was not very convincing what PSV showed. There was 2-1 won against Go Ahead Eagles, but the game was not big. During the start of the competition against Sparta Rotterdam, football was much better. The guests from Rotterdam did what you should not do against PSV: give away space.

Already in the third minute, Ruben van Bommel opened the stand, with PSV-renting Joël Drommel not looked good. A goal during his league debut, something that father Mark also succeeded in the PSV shirt. Mark van Bommel was attentive on Saturday evening in the Philips Stadium, just like the grandfather of Ruben: Bert van Marwijk.

Despite an attacking PSV, the 1-0 remained on the scoreboard for a long time, until Ivan Perisic headed in a corner by Joey Veerman in the 40th minute. That was not the score, because in the extra time of the first half, Sergiño Dest shot the 3-0 against the ropes after a good attack.

The match was already decided in the first half, but PSV did not take any gas after the break. Within 5 minutes it was already 4-0 due to a low slider from Joey Veerman. It was then waiting for the 5-0, but after a little more than hour of play, the guests struck for the first time. Central defender Yarek Gasiorowski lost the ball and therefore Shunsuke Mito could only rely on goalkeeper Matej Kovár. The Japanese kept the overview and served Sayfallah Ltaief: 4-1.

The fifth Eindhoven goal fell in the 70th minute and came in the name of substitute Guus Til. The midfielder shot a pass from Perisic with conviction behind Drommel. That wasn’t enough for PSV, because not much later Gasiorowski put his head behind a perfect Veerman ball: 6-1. Only in the very last minute a dangerous moment of the guests, but Kovar tapped a shot with a handsome reflex over his goal.

It is going to get used to everyone with a PSV heart, because the Eindhoven players are in the lead in the Eredivisie. The road to the third title in a row is still a long time, but this start of the competition is promising. FC Twente is the first away match on Sunday 17 August at 2.30 pm.
