The winning gate falls late in a game in Bolivia. The fans celebrate the triumph with fireworks – and meet their own player in a sensitive place.
In the first divisions of Bolivia, there was a curious and dangerous incident. In the game between The Strongest and Club Blooming, the Strongest-Ultras celebrated their team’s 3-2 win. In the 76th minute Juan Godoy scored the winning goal, but was later the victim of his own fans.
The Ultras celebrated the triumph by shot down rockets. However, one of the rockets flew onto the field and hit goal scorer Godoy in a very sensitive area – directly in the genital area.
After the goal, Godoy went straight to the ground and rolled back and forth in pain. Later he was able to leave the field supported by supervisors. According to Bolivian media reports, Godoy is said to have suffered a burn on the thigh as well as bruise and inflammation on the testicles.
The Ultra Group “UltraSur” was responsible for the campaign. The group announced that they had ignited the fireworks out of cheers and did not, as was said, in protest against the club owners. In addition, the fans asked for the incident. They wrote: “We would like to apologize to all fans for the events. It has never been our intention to harm players or members of the coaching staff. We are always trying to motivate and make a contribution without endangering anyone.”
They also made the promise not to ignite fireworks for future matches. The club also announced that they wanted to make sure that such an incident does not want to repeat and want to find those responsible.
