In a test game of the NFL, a player remains on the ground and must be treated for 20 minutes. After that, teammates and opponents force an abortion.
A test game in the NFL an unusual end. Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons players decided together to end the game prematurely – out of concern for an injured colleague.
In the last quarter of the encounter in Atlanta there was a serious collision. Lions defender Morice Norris remained injured on the ground and had to be treated on the field for around 20 minutes. He was then taken to the hospital by an ambulance. Lions coach Dan Campbell said after the game that Norris could breathe, speak and move. “You are now doing more tests,” he said.
At 5:10 p.m. for the Lions and 14:50 minutes on the clock, the Falcons started the game again – but then all the professionals stopped and let the clock run down. Shortly afterwards they formed a circle and seemed to pray together. The encounter was officially broken off 6:31 minutes before the end.
The decision was discussed in advance between the coaches, reported Campbell. Via Falcons coach Raheem Morris, he said: “We agreed that it didn’t feel right to finish the game.”
Numerous regulars were missing in the preparatory game, including Amon-Ra St. Brown at the Lions. The new NFL season starts in September.
