A specially built caravan, created commissioned by the Drents Museum, gets a new life as a moving caravan museum. The caravan will be officially transferred to the Sinti Roma caravan dwellers association at the end of this month.

The caravan was commissioned by the Drents Museum for an exhibition about caravan dwellers. To give the caravan a goal after the project, the Sinti Roma caravan dwellers association will convert him into a caravan museum. This moving museum will travel through the Netherlands from the end of 2025, past festivals and schools, among others.

The caravan museum consists of a caravan that is furnished with modern and museum elements. For example, visitors can listen to audio and video clips and view those stories from the caravan culture.

There are also a number of interactive paintings and photo frames that are adjusted per location of the caravan in the caravan. In addition, historical writings, musical instruments and clothing will be shown that tell more about the lifestyle of travelers, Sinti and Roma through the ages.

On 26 August the official transfer of the caravan will take place at Kamp Westerbork Memorial Center. From August 16, the caravan can already be seen on the forecourt of the Remembrance Center, as part of the project ‘People of the Ventweg. ‘

The caravan was built with the help of students on behalf of the Drents Museum. The museum collaborated with the Remembrance Center, which brought in knowledge and helped involve people from the Sinti and Roma communities.
