Hamburger SV confirmed the obligation of right -back Giorgi Gocholishvili (24) by Shakhtar Donetsk. Like the previously presented French central defender Warmed Omari (25), the Georgian also comes loan. After the season, the HSV could activate a purchase option of 4 million euros. Gocholeishvili should still have very good memories of Hamburg.
Gocholeishvili is bound by the Ukrainian top club until December 2027 and is awarded for the second time. Last season, the 14-fold international ran for FC Copenhagen, for whom he played 33 games. For Donetsk, 40 missions are available for Gocholishvili. In January 2023, he was hired for a transfer of EUR 1 million from his homeland of Georgia.
“With Giorgi we receive a player who has an excellent character and top mentality. He is known as an absolute team player with a great work morality. With all these attributes, he will not only do our defense network, but also good for the whole team,” said sports director Stefan Kuntz.
Gocholishvili achieved an assist against Barça in the Volksparkstadion
The HSV stadium in the Altona Volkspark already knows Gocholeishvili from several occasions. In all three home games in the group phase of the 2023/24 Champions League season, when the Ukrainians moved to Hamburg as a result of the Russian War of Agency, he was deployed. For the sensational 1-0 win against FC Barcelona, he even contributed the assist to the goal of the day. At the European Championship last year, Gocholishvili returned to the Volksparkstadion with Georgia for the group game against the Czech Republic, but was not used.
In the red pants, Gocholeishvili is to take over the place of William Mikelbrencis (21) as a right -wing defensive rail player. Silvan Hefti (27) can also be found in the squad for the position. By the end of the transfer period on September 1st, one of the two should therefore leave the club.
