17,000 hectares destroyed in a very large forest fire in the South of France, sculptures show ash cloud from space: “A disaster of unprecedented size”

The major fire in the southern French Department Aude is decreasing in intensity, but is still not under control. It is about the largest natural fire in France in 75 years, which has destroyed more than 17,000 hectares of vegetation in almost 48 hours. One person died and thirteen others were injured. French Prime Minister François Bayrou speaks of “a disaster of unprecedented size”.
